Who doesn’t love Christmas? Well, maybe some people, but I love it. Work winds down, people are that little bit friendlier, Christmas music plays in the shops, a feeling of joy is in the air, and gorgeous decorations are everywhere.
When the festive season approaches, people want to feel good. We want to feel there is hope. We want to feel happy. What better way to gear up for Christmas than delving into a feel-good Christmas read?
I don’t know about you, but I’ve never read a Christmas themed book with a sad ending. They are usually full of love, hope, fun, laughter, and leave you with that warm fuzzy feeling inside.
For lovers of romance, you are almost certainly guaranteed a cheesy love story full of sleigh rides in the snow, or romantic strolls through the night Christmas Markets. What’s not to like about that?
For lovers of humour there is often a funny story about family conflict. Uncle Barry gets blind rotten drunk and runs naked down the street, his bells jingling all the way. Aunty Mary flirts with all with the young men, making a total fool of herself. Ex partners having to be in the same room once a year, and their children trying to ensure the big knife used to cut the ham is well out of reach.
If you love a good mystery, there may be a murder at the work Christmas party. ‘Didn't I see Crystal kissing Mark under the mistletoe before Mark's girlfriend went missing?’ Hmmm looks a bit suspicious to me.
For lovers of a happy ending, there is often a story of reconnection. Long lost lovers finding each other once again. Old friends coming together to reminisce about the good old days. All happening around a cozy fireplace with a glass of eggnog in hand. Or if like me, you live in the Southern Hemisphere, you may dream of a day at the beach playing cricket with your mates, while scoffing down copious amounts of prawns and salad on a sweltering summer day.
2021 has been a difficult year for all of us. We all need a little joy in our lives right now. So, find a Christmas themed book and get into the spirit of the season. I promise you; it will bring a big fat festive grin to your face.
Here are some great Christmas books I have either read, am reading, or have on my list to read next year. Ho Ho Ho !!!
