Interview With Author - Rebecca Ridge

I am thrilled to bring you an interview with the very talented, multi genre author, Rebecca Ridge. Rebecca is not only very talented, she is also a supportive member of The Writing Community. Late last year, I read her festive romance novella titled 'A Sprinkle of Love' and very much enjoyed it. A full review of the book can be found in an earlier blog post. So, let's get to it.

Tell me about yourself

Hi, Hayley. Firstly, and foremost, I’m a wife and a mother. My husband and I have 3 beautiful children. Well, they’re teenagers now! We also have 4 fur babies. 2 cats and two dogs. We live in a sea side town in the north east of England. I work two customer service-related jobs and write in my spare time. I’m working towards making my writing my full-time occupation.

When did you write your first book?

I wrote my first book when I was 16, but I never finished it. My mother has never let me forget it and still to the day wants me to finish it. I started writing my adult romance Broken 2 years ago. I’m currently querying it at the moment.

I see you write two different genres. Women’s Fiction and Erotic Fiction. What made you choose to write these genres?

I’m a sucker for romance. Even then, stories I wrote when I was young were romance.

I like to combine the genres. All of my stories have a strong love story. I believe it gives a more powerful impact. I recently signed to an erotica publisher called Berlinable. This pushed me to write more erotica, over clean romance.

Tell me about your love of Women’s Fiction

I love to write what I love to read. I love the feeling off being swept away with a beautiful love story. Feeling the highs and lows and the feeling off utter completion when they find their happy ending. If I can bring anything like that to at least one person, I’m happy.

Tell me about your love of Erotic Fiction

There are a lot of different areas of Erotic fiction, but my core love is the same as women’s fiction. But we all like the hot side of it too, right? To feel a character’s passion on an erotic level is a very deep and delicious thing.

I see you have a new release. Can you tell me about it?

Yes, my latest book is very exciting for me. It’s my first full length novel. It’s called Captivated, the first in an erotic romance series called The Submission of Maizey Randall

I’ve worked hard on this story and have had some great reviews from erotica authors.

It follows the POV of Maizey and Theo. Maizey returns from her travels abroad to find her old life has changed dramatically. Things change even further when she bumps into her ex boyfriend’s older brother Theo, who is an emotionally unavailable serious dominant. Maizey is like his forbidden fruit. He wants her but she is vanilla, which isn’t his flavour. Things complicate more when Maizey’s ex Jenson shows back up in her life. She is caught between the two sexy brothers. But who will she choose?

What has been your favourite book to write so far?

My favourite would be Broken. I really hope I get it picked up by an agent. If not, I will self pub after the TSOMR series.

Who are your favourite authors, and how have they influenced your work?

I started out reading Virginia Andrew’s novels when I was a girl. I was inspired initially to write from her. I would get lost in her imagery. I knew I wanted to recreate that. I’ve been heavily inspired by Stephanie Meyer. I’m a huge ‘Twihard’ and I’m not afraid to admit it. Authors like Cassandra Claire and JR Ward have also and continue to inspire me greatly.

What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment I’m constantly working on the fantasy blog that I am a part of. It’s called Legends of the Veil. I scribe for the character Lilith. Along side some other talented authors. You can find us on Twitter @CursedLegends and @TheDemonQueen00

I’m working on Part 2 of The submissive Dairies for Berlinable.com

I’m also about to start The second TSOMR book

What advice would you give a new author?

Go for it!

Don’t over think it. Just tell your story and never compare yourself to others.

You can’t please everyone, so don’t try

Lastly, what interests do you have outside of writing?

Erm, I have to think about this! All I do is write.

I enjoy reading (cliche I know)

Spending time with my family and friends

I like to play games. The Sims is a huge passion of mine. I’m a TV show addict. I’m a bit of a nerd so I like to go to conventions.

Thank for having me Hayley
