Interview With Author Abigail Mader

Today, I bring you a great interview with author Abigail Mader. Abigail brings tales of fantasy to life. Lets find out more.

Tell me about yourself

I grew up in England and moved to Australia, bringing my love for storytelling with me. As a kid, I was always reading and making up stories. As an adult, not much has changed. I love the beach, ice cream, and spending my days with my family, or reading.

When did you first call yourself a writer?

Probably once I held the author copy of my book in my hands. That’s what made it feel real.

What was your favourite book as a child?

Anything by Enid Blyton. One of my favourites of hers is The Magic Faraway Tree because the characters found themselves in a new world every time.

What do you love about fantasy?

That anything can happen, you can create whole new worlds and make them completely you own. Your only limit is your own imagination.

Tell me about The Crystal Dynasty Series / What inspired it?

The series follows various characters during a brutal uprising, and the aftermath of the events. It’s epic fantasy, that’s a little dark, with magic, betrayal, and morally grey characters. One of the POV’s is the villain, which can leave readers wondering who’s side they should be on.  It came about from an idea that just formed and wouldn’t go away. The character Elinor (the villain) was always at the forefront, wanting her story to be told.

You are the host of an Australin / New Zealand book club. How did it come about?

This came about from being an indie author myself, struggling to be seen, and finding so many other local indie authors in the same boat. I wanted to find a way to help others be seen, and so the book club was created.

You host a podcast called ‘Pages Down Under’. What inspired you to start the podcast?

From the book club. It just felt like a natural extension to the book club, and allows us to speak to so many more authors about their books. Being a podcast too, the episodes will always be available, meaning new listers might discover authors they love from seasons past.

Are you working on anything new?

I am currently working on book three of the Crystal Dynasty series while book 2 is with my editor. The plan is to have the whole trilogy out by the end of 2025.

Do you have a writing routine?

Not really. I try to fit a little time each day between work and family. I am a bit of a panster too, and let the characters lead the way.

What advice would you give a new writer.

To just write and write for you. If you have an idea, just run with it and don’t worry about anyone else. It’s important you love your work first. Especially as a new writer, as you need the space to mess around, make mistakes and write without worry of what others will think.

Great advice indeed. Thanks to Abigail for joining me on the blog. If you would like to check out Abigail's work, click on the links below.
