Who doesn’t love bit of good old drama. C’mon be honest. We know you do. I know I do.
‘Fame and Other Disasters’ by Maria P Frino has it all. Drama, tension, romance, sex, and scandal. In this story we meet Emma and Molly. Our two main characters are close friends and have been inseparable for years.
Both Emma and Molly host their own rival TV shows on competing networks. Emma has had an ongoing casual sexual relationship with Richard, a colleague for a while. A passionate affair so to speak with strong feelings involved. One alcohol fuelled party ends with Emma, Molly and Richard in bed together.
Molly is desperate to move on from the whole sordid mistake, but Richard wants more, leading to an ongoing betrayal. When Emma discovers what’s been going on between her lover and her friend she explodes in an angry rage.
A normal and perfectly expected reaction some might say, but the problem is Emma posts what is a very private fight all over social media. This has devastating consequences for both of their successful and very public careers. Sponsors abandon them and fans turn on them.
Molly flees oversees to escape the drama and is involved in a terrible accident where she almost dies.
Will Molly recover? Can they mend their fractured friendship and save their shattered careers?
This is a great read. Full of drama and lots of surprising heartwarming moments. We are taken on an emotional roller coaster ride along with the two main characters.
It’s always nice to read a book set in my home city. So many places in Sydney mentioned in the book I know well.
This is a wonderful story about how fragile friendships can be, and how the love and support of those around you can help you work out what really matters.
The book has an engaging cast of likeable supporting characters, including two adorable dogs. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
